You may have heard of chiropractic and chiropractors but do you know what this consists? A chiropractor is an individual who has completed at least 2 years of undergraduate study before attending chiropractic school. Programs tend to be between 3 to 4 years and no MCAT or other testing is required to apply. Chiropractic education consists of courses of anatomy, physiology, physical therapy, joint manipulation courses among others. So, having stated the above, what do they do?
Chiropractors are specialist in conditions of the spine, joints and muscles. They can become specialized in fields such as pediatrics, radiology, nutrition, sports medicine as it is in my case and others. Chiropractors work to impart motion to the spine which a procedure called an adjustment and they also work on muscles, other joints of the body, biomechanics, nutrition and more.
Chiropractors are physicians that are different than a medical doctor (MD), osteopathic doctor (DO), physical therapist (PT) and naturopathic doctors (ND), but we are all part of the healthcare system and we each have our own place and time.
