What’s an Adjustment?

This is something that you will most likely hear in most chiropractic visits, so what’s an adjustment? An adjustment is a HVLA provided at the joint in order to restore motion. I am pretty sure you are wondering, what is an HVLA? It stands for high velocity – low amplitude and? It means a keep thrust with low force, this what an adjustment is and you hear a sound. The sound is formed by the collapse of a bubble in the liquids that help lubricate our joints.

Chiropractors are trained professionals in performing this type of treatment. Although there are physical therapist and osteopaths performing adjustments, this is the bread and butter of chiropractors. There is risk as with any procedure with the most common being sore, but it is important to share your past medical history to your provider since there are some contraindications to and adjustment. Lastly is important to remember that you can remove your consent to any treatment at any type, if you don’t feel comfortable with a procedure or a treatment speak up this will only help your provider with their treatment or it will show you that you may need to change providers.
